Installing eSim(s) on Apple devices using a QR Code

This help guide walks you through the steps required to install an eSIM on an Apple Device, the guide was created using the most recent version of Apple software available at the time, IOS 16.3.

Before starting the install, it is important you have the following three components:

Scan the QR Code

Step 1
  • Go to “Settings”
  • Make sure “Mobile Data” is turned on
  • Tap “Add eSIM”
  • Tap “Use QR Code”
  • Scan the QR Code provided

Add the eSIM

Step 2
  • When prompted, tap “Continue”
  • Allow up to 10 minutes for the eSIM to activate
  • Tap “Done”

Label your eSIM

Step 3
  • Under “Cellular/Mobile Plan Labels” you should see the newly installed eSIM
  • Tap the right-hand arrow under the new eSIM
  • Choose one of the preset label’s or tap “Custom Label” and type the name you want to use
  • In this example the name of the eSIM was changed to “My eSIM” using the custom label box
  • Tap “Done”
  • Tap “Continue”

Configure your eSIM

Step 4
  • Select“Primary” under “Default Line”
  • Tap “Continue”
  • Select “Primary” under “iMessage & FaceTime”
  • Tap “Continue”
  • Select “My eSIM” under “Mobile Data”
  • Turn on “Allow Mobile Data Switching”
  • Tap “Done”
“Allow Mobile Data Switching” will allow your device to use mobile data from both lines depending on coverage and availability. You can change your selection later in settings.

Ensure data roaming is active

Step 5
  • Go to “Settings”
  • Tap “Mobile/Cellular Data”
  • Under “SIMs” , select “My eSIM”
  • Turn on “Data Roaming”
Once you have landed at your destination, you must turn on “Data Roaming” to begin using your plan.
